At our practice, our goal with general dentistry is to preserve the natural teeth by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in our practice by the efforts of our dentists and dental hygienist to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health.

Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth. Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, beautiful smile.

Comprehensive Care

At JJS Dentistry, our goal with general dentistry is to preserve natural teeth by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.

Oral Hygiene

Even if you brush and floss conscientiously, regular hygiene appointments are essential. The oral cavity is more intimately connected to wellness than any other body part. Oral problems can be an indicator of systemic disease. Conversely, dental issues can contribute to other serious problems such as diabetes, heart disease and dementia. Teeth cleaning complements your daily regimen, helping to keep your mouth disease-free. Check-ups allow Dr Serfontein to detect potential problems early, when they can be corrected efficiently and economically, with the least discomfort. As a result, your teeth feel smooth and clear, and your smile looks bright too.

Metal-free Fillings

When it comes to filling a cavity, traditional methods often require the use of gold or metal alloys. These fillings can be noticeable when talking or smiling, leading to embarrassment or self-consciousness. If you have a cavity that needs to be refilled or you need to repair a cavity, metal-free fillings can provide you with a lasting and more attractive option. Nearly invisible, metal-free fillings are almost as strong as your natural tooth enamel and are long-lasting. In addition, the colour camouflages perfectly to the colour of your teeth, so you don't have to worry about anyone noticing the filling.

JJS Dentistry is dedicated to providing metal-free fillings so all our clients can have Hollywood Smiles.

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are utilised to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, small cracks or fractures. In order to fill the tooth, the decayed portion of the tooth will need to be removed. Composite fillings can be coloured to match adjacent teeth, making your smile look 100% natural.

As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may need to be replaced at some point. Dental fillings are very durable and have been known to last many years. This procedure can be done as quickly as one dental appointment and can help restore your tooth to its original shape and function.

Tooth Restoration

The incidence of tooth decay has significantly diminished over the years due to the use of fluorides and increased patient awareness. However, teeth are still susceptible to decay, infection and breakage and sometimes need to be restored back to health. Through improved techniques and modern technology, we can now offer more options for restoring a tooth to its normal shape, appearance and function.

  • Enhance your smile
  • Fill in unattractive spaces between teeth
  • Improve or correct an improper bite
  • Prevent the loss of a tooth
  • Relieve dental pain
  • Repair damaged and decayed teeth
  • Replace missing teeth
  • Replace old, unattractive dental treatments
  • Restore normal eating and chewing

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal therapy brings immediate relief of discomfort caused by infection and inflammation at the centre of a tooth. At the core of each tooth is a chamber that houses vascular tissues, providing blood supply to the tooth. Pulp and nerves extend deep into the roots of teeth. When a tooth is decayed, cracked or otherwise damaged, oral pathogens find their way into the pulp chamber. The resulting infection creates pressure within the tooth and inflames nerves. Root canal therapy involves opening the tooth and removing the damaged structure. Pulp and nerves are eliminated, and empty canals are cleaned. The pulp chamber is sealed, and the tooth is protected with a strong porcelain crown. In the end, you will be left with a tooth that is not only free of decayed nerves but also pain. Once you have completed your root canal, you may want to consult with our phenomenal dentists about taking the next step toward restoration.

FAQs

Why is primary dental care so important?

As we've mentioned, even if you are doing a perfect job of taking care of your teeth at home, it's still vital to see the dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings. With our advanced dental equipment, we can reach into crevices that floss and toothbrushes cannot. Not only this, but we perform X-rays and physical exams to ensure you don't have any signs of decay, cavities, misalignment or gum disease.

How often should I visit the dentist?

We advise patients to visit us for a comprehensive evaluation and dental cleaning every 6 months. This way, we can spot any issues before they develop too severely.

How can I care for my teeth between dental visits?

There are many ways you can ensure that you keep your teeth healthy in between dental visits, including:

  • Brush and floss your teeth twice a day every day
  • Use a fluoride toothpaste
  • Avoid hard, crunchy foods that could damage or crack teeth
  • Don't use your teeth to open bottles or containers
  • Avoid lifestyle habits that damage your teeth, such as smoking

How often should I change my toothbrush?

You should change your toothbrush every 3 months. Toothbrushes are breeding grounds for bacteria and lose their effectiveness after a period of time, so it's necessary to replace them regularly.

What is a cavity?

Cavities are small holes that form on the tooth caused by decay. When plaque on the teeth combines with certain sugars and starches in food, it creates an acid that eats away at the tooth's enamel. It's essential to have a cavity treated as soon as possible to prevent further issues from developing. Cavities can be treated with fillings and other restorations.

What is gum disease?

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is an infection of the gums that develops from too much plaque and tartar on the teeth. In the early stages, gum disease is still completely treatable. However, if the disease progresses, it can lead to tooth loss and bone damage.

The symptoms of gum disease are:

  • Receding gum line
  • Loss of a tooth or teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Swollen, red and irritated gums
  • Tooth sensitivity

In January last year I was fortunate enough to have my teeth whitened by Chantelle at the Vineyards. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my teeth and still do to this day - and its been more than a year. I still use my At Home teeth whitening kit once a week to maintain this white smile. I will forever be grateful for the team at Jjs Dentistry. I still LOVE my smile! I highly recommend to EVERYONE! Its a Spa for your teeth while watching Netflix - what more do you want!?

Took my daughter to Dr Raymund Weihmann with a broken tooth and he was absolutely AMAZING ! He explained everything he was doing which made her feel more relaxed and he listened to what she wanted. Whole experience was fantastic - from being fitted in at the last minute before a long weekend to the way everybody in the practice treated her. Will definitely be returning to him!

Honestly the best dentist I’ve been to and I have a massive fear of the dentist… I even got to watch Netflix while waiting in the chair and they made my experience quite enjoyable! I’ve been back 6 times in 2 months and excited every time! What amazing and fun staff! We are practically family at this point!
